Decorating Your Valentine's Day Party

In anticipation of our Valentine's Day party, I have been looking around online for things that I can get to make our house more themed. I found this great site called Print Appeal who have these great printed cocktail napkins and styrofoam cups. We, as a house, have decided to center our party around these witty napkins....

We thought it was a great happy medium between being too mushy ("You had me at hello") and being to against the whole thing ("Men are like roses.. watch out for the pricks").

While Christmas is over, we are going to join our Christmas lights together and hang them around our living room for mood lighting. We figure Christmas lights make people happy as well as create a romantic setting. Because we have so many people coming, and not enough matching glasses, we're going to go out and simply get red SOLO cups to fill with our drinks. If we can find any pink ones, we'll most likely get those, too.

Because we are having a cocktail party, we want to have at least a few snacks so that people don't get too... happy by the end of the night. As of right now, we're planning a simple chocolate fondue since it's easy to make as well as inexpensive.

Our choice for this may change depending on our guests palates as well as the timing for it all but for now - we feel chocolate is a universally enjoyed dish.

Valentine's Day Party Idea

So as I'm sure we all know, Valentine's Day is coming up. Now this is one of those holidays that is either welcomed with open arms or detested by most people... and usually, it depends on whether or not you have a significant other or not.

Personally, I have only had one "real" valentine, but to be honest - the years I have simply spent Valentine's Day with friends have been the years that have been both the most memorable and the most fun.

This year, 6 of my 8 roommates either have a boyfriend or they have someone they are dating, but we all want to be able to spend part of the holiday together, so we've been trying to figure out a way to be able to do a little of both.

After talking about this for what seems like weeks, we have finally decided to have a cocktail party on Friday the 13th (that way we can both cater to the people who have dates on the actual night of and we can cater to those who are bitter towards the whole thing with the whole Friday the 13th aspect of it). We have sent out our invitations, and have set up the party as this:

Everyone brings their favorite drink, or a drink that relates to Valentine's Day - be it in color or in name. We'll then have a table set up in the living room for people to put their beverage of choice on, and we'll treat it as a cocktail party pot luck. For those of you who have not been to a pot luck, it basically consists of everyone bringing a dish for dinner and then everyone who is attending gets to share to create a full meal. It's a great way to eat a nutritious and expensive meal for relatively cheap. This way, we all get to have different drinks - that would in any other situation - cost us hundreds to stock our liquor cabinet with all these different drinks (which is great when you're on a college budget, as well as any budget in this financial situation).

Holiday Dress Idea #1

With the holidays season fastly approaching, I'm sure everyone no doubt has a plethora of holiday parties to attend - whether it's the dreaded Company Christmas Party (which, if you're lucky, maybe there's an open bar), or it's simply a family and friends occasion.

Perhaps you have a closet full of things to wear to such occasions, and are always party ready. Or, you're like me and like to wait til the last minute to realize you have absolutely nothing to wear, and send yourself into a panic of sorts.

So, I decided to get a head-start on things and put together a few outfit ideas for a few of your parties. So.. onto outfit #1.....

Items included...
Handbag: Forever 21.com $17.80
Tights: J. Crew $16.50 or 2/$25 (I own these, and they are by far the most comfortable tights I've ever worn)
Shoes: BCBGirls "Edith" Pump from Nordstroms $97.95
Bracelet: ShopIntuition Twisted Metal Cuff $25 (I like this because it has a great vintage feel to it)
Dress: Forever 21 $ (It's available in 5 or 6 other colors, but I like this blue color because it doesn't scream holidays like some dresses can, and can work for any kind of party)

I have always shied away from tights, but this season, I've begun to love them. They make (next to) everything in your closet have the ability to be worn during the colder winter season. Plus, if you pair them with matching shoes, they make your legs look chic and elongate them.

If this isn't an outfit you're going crazy over, stay tuned. We'll definitely have some more posted!

Happy Party Dress Hunting,
Corey
